ICOMOS appoints Philippe Allard to the post of Director-General

Philippe Allard

The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) is happy to announce that it has appointed Mr Philippe Allard to the position of Director-General of the ICOMOS International Secretariat, based in Paris.

Philippe Allard comes to ICOMOS well qualified for the post. He brings the experience of 15 years of managerial work in France in three different sectors of activities, followed by appointments as General Manager for the Italian Volvo Truck Centres with headquarters in Bergamo, and prior to that, for Midas in Italy and Austria. Mr Allard is confident about the challenge of transferring his extensive dominion of management and team work in the forprofit sector to the non-profit work of ICOMOS, and applying them to advance its work for cultural heritage. Mr Allard is a French national, and fluent in English, German and Italian.
“We warmly welcome Philippe Allard to ICOMOS. He brings to our organization and to the International Secretariat all the
necessary pre-requisites that we were looking for: a contagious enthusiasm for heritage conservation, an optimistic disposition, excellent administrative skills, and exciting new ideas to orchestrate the work of our Secretariat staff in building a stronger organization” said ICOMOS President Gustavo Araoz. “I am certain that just as the Executive Committee did, all ICOMOS members will find in Philippe a friendly partner and a strong leader committed to expand our horizons.”
In making this appointment, the Executive Committee is continuing to consolidate during its current mandate the strengthening of the organisational capacity of ICOMOS that was begun during the last triennium.

Philippe Allard will officially commence work with ICOMOS on 16 April 2012. “I look forward to closely working with the National Committees, in particular towards growing the ICOMOS membership. Relations with our partners and diversifying ICOMOS’ funding sources are among my other priorities. I am very happy to work for ICOMOS as it serves a cause essential to humanity”.

ICOMOS was founded in 1965 and is the only global nongovernmental organisation of its kind working with all professions
and disciplines for the conservation and protection of cultural heritage places. ICOMOS is a network of approximately 11,000 members worldwide - experts from all fields involved in cultural heritage conservation.
