In 1982, ICOMOS established 18 April as the International Day for Monuments and Sites, followed by UNESCO adoption during its 22nd General Conference. Each year, on this occasion, ICOMOS proposes a theme for activities to be organized by its members, National and International Scientific Committees, partners, and anyone who wants to join in marking the Day.
Getty Conservation Institute in collaboration with ICOMOS ISC20C (the 20th Century Heritage International Scientific Committee) released “The Twentieth-Century Historic Thematic Framework,” a free online tool for architecture and heritage conservation professionals around the world.
ICOMOS Germany continues its remarkable work of monitoring endangered cultural heritage around the world. As former ICOMOS President Toshiyuki Kono pointed out at the opening of this report, "over the past 20 years, this series of publications has presented many heritage sites facing various difficulties, and has drawn the attention of a wider public to the risks caused by different types of natural disasters, destructive human activities and excessive economic development".

ICOMOS held its 20th General Assembly online from 3 to 16 December 2020.
Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Australia ICOMOS unfortunately had to withdraw from hosting the 20th General Assembly in Sydney in October 2020. This National Committee will be hosting the 21st General Assembly in Sydney in 2023.
Approximatively 900 members had registered to participate to the online sessions of the General Assembly, and 65 ICOMOS National Committees were represented.
