ICOMOS is pleased to announce that the #CultureCovid19 Statement, issued on 20 April 2020, launched with a webinar on 21 May 2020 and available in several languages on the #Culture2030Goal website, has been officially endorsed by H.E. Mr Tijjani Muhammed-Bande, President of the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNPGA).
ICOMOS has been closely engaged with the topic of sustainable development in recent years, both in the run up to and since the adoption of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in 2015. ICOMOS’ work is undertaken by a Working Group under the coordination of a volunteer ICOMOS Focal Point.
ICOMOS is pleased to share its second discussion paper on “Sites associated with memories of Recent Conflicts and the World Heritage Convention”. Encouraged by the World Heritage Committee to further deepen its analysis and broaden the participation of experts in this new reflection, ICOMOS prepared this second discussion paper to consider the purpose and scope of the World Heritage Convention, as well as its key concepts, and how sites assorted with memories of recent conflicts relate to these.
Numerous human rights mechanisms have already raised their voices to warn about the impact of the pandemic on human rights and to provide guidance about the human rights issues to keep in mind when taking measures to counter it.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has given international organisations, including ICOMOS, the opportunity to share reflections on protecting human rights during and after COVID-19.
The ICOMOS Emerging Professionals Working Group (EPWG) is excited to host a dual webinar series on the subject of 'Heritage and Climate Change' on 20 June and 18 July at 14:00 Paris time.
