In 2024, a call for members went out for the ICOMOS Indigenous Heritage Working Group (IHWG). That Working group has now been established and is already collaboratively working on a forward workplan. 

ICOMOS’ work is undertaken by the Indigenous Heritage Working Group (IHWG) under the coordination of two volunteer ICOMOS Focal Points.

The World Monuments Fund has announced its 2025 Watch: 25 sites are listed this year in the biennial nomination-based advocacy programme, including... the Moon! The nomination of the satellite originated from ICOMOS' International Scientific Committee on Aerospace Heritage, which was launched in 2023.
As a new era of space exploration dawns, international collaboration is required to protect the physical artifacts of early Moon landings.

On 28 November 2024, the Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE) and Europa Nostra co-hosted the conference “New European Bauhaus: Heritage & Transformation” in Kraków, Poland. The event showcased exemplary best practices, cutting-edge solutions for conservation, retrofitting, and adaptive reuse, while also addressing the barriers and opportunities that drive innovation in these fields. The full-day programme concluded with an exclusive preview of the Kraków Declaration, a collaborative initiative by ACE, Europa Nostra, and ICOMOS. 

ICOMOS is proud to share CHARTER's 12 concrete recommendations to strengthen the heritage sector by addressing key gaps in education, training, and labour market needs. These targeted actions aim to ensure sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation while positioning cultural heritage as a driver of social, economic, and environmental progress.

From 25 to 29 November 2024, Swahilipot Hub hosted Africa24, ICOMOS’ first conference in Africa focusing on the conservation of African built heritage, in Mombasa, Kenya. The conference aimed to provide an international platform to support African indigenous and local communities and heritage professionals, foster networking, and promote the implementation of strategies to enhance global knowledge of the region’s heritage defined from an African perspective.

ICOMOS is pleased to announce that Ave Paulus has been appointed as the new ICOMOS Focal Point to coordinate the Climate Action Working Group (CAWG) for the period 2024-2027. 

Ave Paulus is the president of ICOMOS Estonia, and has over 20 years of experience as a senior specialist for cultural heritage issues at the Environmental Board of Estonia, Ministry of Climate of Estonia.
