ICOMOS President in Kinshasa to prepare capacity-building workshop

All over the world, national heritage services are establishing national cultural heritage inventories in view of ensuring its protection and enhancement, as well as its transmission to future generations. Today, heritage policies play a central role and are increasingly becoming the engine for sustainable development of civil society. A national inventory of cultural heritage represents the foundation of any heritage policy.

The establishment of an inventory focusing on tangible heritage would provide the basic tool for all heritage management in the DRC and would pave the way for its national protection, conservation, valorisation and promotion.

The main objective of the project is to provide basic cross-cutting training on the different typologies of inventories available, their use as operational and management tools, the sources and types of heritage documentation available, as well as documentation techniques, in order to accompany the heritage professionals in their task of choosing the most appropriate methodology, tools and common strategies to create the said general inventory.

ICOMOS President Teresa Patrício and ICOMOS Secretary General Mario Santana will teach thirty participants of the capacity building workshop to be held next year in Kinshasa and Kongo Central.
