Since its launch in Glasgow in 2019, the Climate Heritage Network has achieved numerous milestones, and is announcing today the members of its Steering Committee for 2022-24. As a founding member and its Secretariat, ICOMOS has been working with the CHN to mobilise art, culture and heritage for climate action.

ICOMOS is pleased to publish a new thematic study about the cultural heritages of water in tropical and subtropical Eastern and South-Eastern Asia.

The European Cultural Heritage Skills Alliance CHARTER, Erasmus+ funded project of which ICOMOS is a full partner, has released a new report: “Cultural heritage education & training in Europe – pathways to qualifications” by Working Package 3 (Vocational Education and Training [VET] and beyond).

In November 2021, ICOMOS adopted a new Triennial Scientific Plan 2021-24 – Cultural Heritage and Climate Action. This is the first to ambitiously attempt a coordinated effort amongst ALL ICOMOS members and Committees to focus on a single scientific issue.

To add to the already substantial national alarm, raised among others by ICOMOS Japan, ICOMOS is issuing a worldwide Heritage Alert, our most consequential expression of concern, to amplify awareness of the imminent and irreversible threats to the Takanawa Chikutei maritime railway track embankment (Japan) in the form of its on-going, partial but substantial destruction after its rescue excavation and recording.

In 1982, ICOMOS established 18 April as the International Day for Monuments and Sites, followed by UNESCO adoption during its 22nd General Conference. Each year, on this occasion, ICOMOS proposes a theme for activities to be organized by its members, ICOMOS National and International Scientific Committees, Working Groups and partners, and anyone who wants to join in marking the Day.

Building on last year’s theme “Complex Pasts: Diverse Futures” – for 2022, we call on you all to explore the theme: Heritage and Climate through open, constructive and intergenerational dialogues.
