From 25 to 29 November 2024, Swahilipot Hub hosted Africa24, ICOMOS’ first conference in Africa focusing on the conservation of African built heritage, in Mombasa, Kenya. The conference aimed to provide an international platform to support African indigenous and local communities and heritage professionals, foster networking, and promote the implementation of strategies to enhance global knowledge of the region’s heritage defined from an African perspective.

ICOMOS is pleased to announce that Ave Paulus has been appointed as the new ICOMOS Focal Point to coordinate the Climate Action Working Group (CAWG) for the period 2024-2027. 

Ave Paulus is the president of ICOMOS Estonia, and has over 20 years of experience as a senior specialist for cultural heritage issues at the Environmental Board of Estonia, Ministry of Climate of Estonia.

ICOMOS is pleased to announce that Dr. Naima Benkari has been appointed as the new ICOMOS Focal Point to coordinate the Sustainable Development Goals Working Group (SDGWG) for the period 2024-2027. 

Dr. Naima Benkari is an Associate Professor at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman and has served as an Associate Research Fellow at the University of Tokyo, Japan. 

ICOMOS took part in the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), which was held from 11 to 22 November in Baku, Azerbaijan, to reaffirm its commitment to climate action within heritage conservation practices.

From 28 October to 2 November, a joint UNESCO/ICOMOS mission on Advanced documentation of the state of conservation and emergency preparedness planning for the Church of St. George (Drohobych) and the Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit (Potelych), components of the World Heritage property ‘Wooden Tserkvas of the Carpathian Region in Poland and Ukraine’, took place in the L'viv region. 7 experts from ICOMOS participated in the mission.

ICOMOS and its International Scientific Committee on 20th Century Heritage (ISC20C) is issuing a Heritage Alert to respond to the imminent risks of demolition and alterations that could diminish the character of 20th-century heritage in the Serbian capital, more specifically the Dobrovićev Generalštab and the Belgrade Fair complex.
