Please find below the second Coronavirus COVID-19 Statement concerning the planned GA2020 in Sydney, this October. Following a decision by Australia ICOMOS in May regarding the event in Sydney, the ICOMOS Board and International Secretariat will propose the most appropriate solution to ensure that ICOMOS maintains its statutory obligations under French law and obligations to our membership.

ICOMOS has received the following statement from Australia ICOMOS, advising that owing to present restrictions and future uncertainties resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, they are unable to host the General Assembly in Sydney in October 2020.

We understand many of you may have concerns about the coronavirus (COVID-19) and how that may affect GA2020 in Sydney, this coming October. Australia ICOMOS and the GA2020 team are monitoring the COVID-19 situation, which is changing very rapidly at present. At this time, there are a range of restrictions in place, which affect travel to Australia. As this is a rapidly-evolving situation, it is not possible to provide advice about travel in September / October, nor to speculate about the prospect that GA2020 may be amended, deferred or cancelled.

The Piero Gazzola Prize was established in 1979 in memory of ICOMOS’ founding President and is the highest distinction awarded by ICOMOS. The Prize is awarded every three years during the ICOMOS General Assembly to an individual or a group of people who have worked together and contributed with distinction to the aims and objectives of ICOMOS.
